Motorcycle Touring
Motorcycling America is a great place to find motorcycle touring tips and motorcycle touring products. It is also a great place to share your experiences with other motorcycling enthusiasts
Touring the country by motorcycle is one of life’s greatest pleasures. Motorcycle touring allows you to feel the wind in your face, the sun on your back and have a much better view than you can get from the cage of a car. This country is full of beautiful back country roads yearning to be driven.
Touring by motorcycle takes more planning than touring by car. Motorcycles are much more space limited than cars. Even my fully decked out Honda GL1800 can only carry so much gear, much less than even the smallest automobile. But with careful planning and packing, touring by motorcycle can be accomplished in comfort and style.
When planning your motorcycle tour, the first thing you have to think about is your destination. Are just touring the country for fun or do you have a specific destination in mind? How long a trip are you going to take? Is this a weekend ride or a month-long (or longer tour) They each take a different plan.
Touring by motorcycle can be as simple as planning a lunch at a distant location.
Pick a destination, grab a map and plan a route that involves some nice twisties on the way. Check out the Readers Input discussion board for suggestions in your area. If you have any good suggestions, post them on the in the Readers Input discussion board page.
Gas up, take a nice ride, have a great lunch and leisurely ride back home.
What about a motorcycle touring weekend? Whether you plan a hotel stay or a camping trip, a little planning up front as to roads you will take will make the trip better
Motorcycle touring for a week or longer takes a lot more planning. Things you must consider are:
- Where will you stay each night?
- How far do you want to ride each day?
- What will the weather be like along the way?
- Where will I eat?
- Where are the gas stops?
- Where are the rest stops?
- What sights are there to see along the way?
Then is one other question that affects you as a motorcycle tourer.
- What clothes to bring, and how to pack them
When touring by car, this is typically not an issue, as you can load the trunk
with your whole wardrobe, but on a motorcycle, you are limited to what you can
pack on the bike, unless you have a trailer. But even trailers are not as spacious
ads a car trunk.
You will find the answers to all these questions and suggestions to make motorcycle
touring easier and more fun on this site. You will also find links and posts
from readers who make motorcycle touring their life.
